A little about this Race...
Doug was a former ski racer of Lake Louise Ski club, coach and Nancy Greene coordinator with the Lake Louise Ski Club. He was also a school teacher, tennis instructor, golfer and all-around athlete and lover of life.In April 2003, at the age of 30, Doug passed away to brain cancer. The next season, the Lake Louise Ski Club approached the Meyers family and asked if they could name their race in his honour.
Since that first race in 2004, the race has become an event that many clubs look forward to every year, with over 300 young athletes taking part in this fun race! It is a 2-day event with the culmination coming on Sunday when every racer gets to take part in a parade down the front side of the mountain with all the kids sporting bright yellow t-shirts (Doug’s favourite colour).

Parade of Yellow
One of the favorite parts of this event for many young athletes is the "Parade of Yellow". Doug Meyers favorite color was yellow. His family joins the children at the top of the parade route to hand out t-shirts and share the memory of Doug Meyers. It is a sight to see when over 300 athletes ski down the hill in one large snake led by our Lake Louise mascot.
Make sure to grab a spot on the Whiskey Jack deck on Sunday so you can watch first hand! |
